Cindy Cao - Visual Designer

Ting (Cindy) Cao is a digital media artist based in Canada with two master degrees. She specializes in Graphic Design, Motion Graphics, Video Production, with complimentary skills in Design Thinking & Ethnography and Photography. Her work maintains a strategic focus on communication, narrative and user centric design processes for digital media. She has an interest in pursuing further opportunities which encompasses art, technology, education, aesthetics and entertainment together with creative designed projects, new media applications and culturally relevant artistic experiences.

Experience

Web/Graphic Designer (Marketing) at Electronic Arts (EA)
October 2014 – October 2015

Responsible for supporting the Electronic Arts global publishing team and FIFA marketing team in creating strong visual, high converting campaigns and assets for online, game console and social media channels.

  • Created online and game console assets for live in-game banners, email, social media, landing pages, in-game packs, weekly assets etc.
  • Managed and prioritized multiple projects for print, digital and video for both the EA global publishing team and the EA FIFA marketing team
  • Worked alongside marketing teams that were based in Europe (UK, German, Switzerland etc.) regularly to achieve successful product launches and often worked with them to localize engagement assets
  • Primary designer for FIFA Ultimate Team in-game packs, which had a direct impact in revenue generated via FIFA 16 and FIFA 15 console games
  • Consistently created strong high conversion campaigns assets that regularly received 10,000 to 15,000 likes per asset, increasing the fan base to more than 4.1 million fans on the EA FIFA Ultimate team Facebook page
  • Drove key revenue metrics through targeted and creative optimization of assets that resulted in a substantial increase of in-game packs traded and packs opened for FIFA World
  • Actively took broad requirements from marketing teams and turned them into highly effective focused marketing creative across all channels

Exploration and design of a documentary storytelling framework utilising Google Glass.

Branding the False Creek Flats

Development of a multimedia solution that provides VEC the opportunity to engage with local businesses in greening their business operations and forming a community in the False Creek Flats.

Breaking the Cliché         
March 2014 to April 2014

Breaking the Cliché is an augmented reality installation utilising tablets to interface with a projected map of the world. Attempted to provoke the audience into thinking about different perspectives when it comes to viewing tourist landmarks.

  • Created graphic and audio elements of the project
  • Sourced photography to be used as augmented reality targets
  • Proposed and developed the main idea behind the project

Tangram
January 2014

2D platform game on mobile or tablet for Global Game Jam 2014 (60 hour event).

  • Designed all UI aspects of the game
  • Generated ideas and concepts that would be implemented into the game

Rewind

Rewind is an interactive storytelling game finished in 7 weeks as the final project for an interactive visual stories course.

  • Created graphics and animations for a number of game levels

Yummy!

A microphone-based game built in Unity, finished in 31 hours in a Hack-a-thon.

  • Created graphics, game opening video and sourced audio utilized in the game

Wall is Coming  
February 2013 to March 2013

Wall is Coming is a motion-based game, utilizing the Kinect created as part of the IDEA-X 2013 program which is a four week project development boot camp hosted by the Centre for Digital Media. It features an oncoming wall with various shapes that need to be mimicked. Players are tasked with making poses to match the challenging shapes.
